Sept. 25th 2009 - Old Great Egrets Fishing Hole

Old Great Egret has a dreadful temper. He was always looking for his own private space. Never did he like to share. Today at Fort De Soto, he thought he had found the perfect private place to eat.

"Awh! My own private fishing hole. Today will be a good day!" he thought to himself.

Of course little did he know Little Red Egret was lurking nearby. Most of the other birds were a bit afraid of Old Great Egret, but not Little Red. In fact she didn't even bother to stop and say anything to Old Great Egret.

She immediately started swishing her feet through the muddy water in hopes of stirring up a meal.

Well this angered Old Great Egret immensely.

"And whom do you think you are?" shouted Old Great Egret!

Well that caused the hair on the back of Little Red's neck to stand straight up!

Little Red began moving slowly toward Old Great Egret, thinking he would just back off. But nothing doing!

"You are stealing my food," yelled Old Great Egret!

"I am not a thief," Little Red Egret yelled back!

"You are!" shouted Old Great, working himself into a rage.

Soon the battle began. Each charged the other until Little Red Egret realized Old Great Egret was much bigger than than she was, turned and ran in the other direction.

Old Egret was proud, not realizing in his moment of glory, Young Miss Snowy Egret had landed and was trying to enjoy the bounty of the fishing hole.

Miss Snowy quickly discovered the angry eyes of Old Great Egret and made haste to leave.

Old Great Egret was now tired but had great relief that the fishing hole belonged to him.
