I was shooting at Carillon Boardwalk. I had not seen anything spectacular moving around as I am always looking for unique shots. Near the end of my walk I noticed three very young green herons all standing on the same limb. They stayed close to their wooded hiding place but this one was very inquisitive. A mosquito hawk, as we call it here in the south was fluttering around him as if to dare the young heron. Further and further out on the limb the insect lured him.

He made several attempts to capture his prey and with no luck, the thing was just to fast for him. But then for that brief moment the mosquito hawk flew in closer and the young heron made a dive and whola! Success. As he held the flickering bug in his mouth slowly scooting backwards to get to a more sturdy place on the branch his balance shifted, his mouth opened and away the mosquito hawk went, never to be seen again.
